Simon & May's Procrastinatory Blog

These pages originally were supposed to chronicle in excruciating detail how our procrastination would lead to complete and utter disaster on our wedding day. Now, in the wake our of glorious and mostly uneventful union, these pages live on to chronicle our continuing procrastinatory adventures.

Beastie Boys to Perform: August 28-30, 2009 (No, not at our Wedding)

UPDATE! (07/20/09): Beasties have cancelled their concert at OutSide lands. However there's still quite a few headliner acts though.

Original Post:

Uh oh, looks like there is a major competing event for the August 28-30 weekend. "Outside Lands" is a massive multi-stage concert held at Golden Gate park in San Francisco. It's huge.

This year's headliners are the Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam, Dave Mathew's Band, Incubus, Black Eyed Peas, Thievery Corporation, and MIA, just to name a few. If you're too old to recognize any of those bands, please note that apparently Tom Jones is performing (live), too. (Check out the full lineup on the Outside Lands website.)

Those of you on the fence about attending our wedding have another reason to come to San Francisco.

What this also means for our guests is potentially a large influx of people coming to the City this weekend, which means you should all book your hotel rooms ASAP, or you'll end up in a van down by the river, or worse, the Holiday Inn without free WiFi or continental breakfast.

There's Light at the End of the Tunnel

Finally some progress to update everyone. This is a "Wedding Blog", after all. We can say with pretty good certainty that we have the following items finally picked out, after much research and debate:
  • Photographer (Marc & Phoebe of This is iT Photography).
  • Musician for the ceremony and cocktail reception
  • Floral centerpiece arrangement (this one, oddly enough, was the subject of much debate)
  • Invitations (ok, we're close...very close. )

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

More information than you could ever want about the Event. This is mainly for out of town folks, and anyone who has the time to read this and tolerates excessive verbosity.

1. Can you tell us more about the rooms at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel?
We have a "special" block of rooms booked at a rate of $139/night (2 person occupancy). The hotel has some really good specials , so please check them all out here before booking. Those of you renting cars should check out the "free parking" deals. Also note we don't get any kickbacks if you mention our names. In fact, it's probably better you don't associate yourselves with us at all.

About parking: Some of the out of town guests might not need to rent a car. The Drake is located right in the heart of downtown San Francisco, which is tourist ground zero. We could be convinced to pick you up at the airport too - or we will send a suitable (unsuspecting) proxy.

Those of you driving in just for the event should consider parking at the Sutter & Stockton garage. Since it's city run the rates are a little better, but not by much.

1.5 The Drake looks fancy. What kind of stuff should I expect?
Probably the most important thing to some of our guests is the free internet access at no extra cost.

Update: Some of the deals include some pretty sweet Terry Cloth animal print robes, and there WILL be a group robe picture, so please bring them to the reception.

Those of you wishing to cram in multiple people per room are encouraged to get additional cots ($30/night) or if you are small enough to fit in one, cribs are apparently free.

2. Where are you guys registered?
It took a really long time for us to figure out the best way to say this eloquently. We haven't registered anywhere, and this is not because we just did not get around to it. In lieu of gifts, guests are encouraged to express their love and appreciation for us in other more creative ways (preferably in US currency).

2.5. But I really really want to get you this awesome toaster.
We don't eat bread. Or toast.

3. Can I also bring my...(insert potentially unwanted guest's name here).
When you receive your invitation in the mail, please pay close attention to the number of people it is addressed to on the outside envelope. That's the number of people in your party. Sorry we had to spell it out like this, but a lot of people don't read Miss Manners anymore. This poll may also be of interest to some.

4. How many people are coming ?
We're trying to keep our number to around 140. This will of course depend on how many guests read and comprehend item #3 above.

5. Where are you going for your honeymoon?
This might depend on the response from #2 above. Update: We can say with certainty that it will not be Maldives, Europe, Australia, Ottawa, or San Mateo.

6. Will there be waterguns, robots, or light sabres at this event?
Let's just say if you happen to bring any of those items, you won't be turned away.
